Fifteen Benefits of Compost Use

Improves soil structure and porosity - creating a better plant root environment

Increases moisture infiltration and permeability, and reduces the bulk density of heavy soils - improving moisture infiltration rates and reducing erosion and runoff

Improves the moisture holding capacity of light soils - reducing water loss and nutrient leaching, and improving moisture retention

Improves cation exchange capacity (CEC) of soils

Supplies organic matter

Aids proliferation of soil microbes

Supplies beneficial microorganisms to soils and growing media

Encourages vigorous root growth

Allows plants to more effectively utilize nutrients, while reducing nutrient loss by leaching

Enables soils to retain nutrients longer

Contains humus which helps in soil aggregation and makes nutrients more available for plant uptake

Buffers soil PH

Supplies macro and micro nutrients

May suppress soil borne disease

Can bind and degrade certain pollutants

Compost Reuse Solutions

Compost - Flowers & Food Crops

My green thumb came only as a result of the mistakes I made while learning to see things from the plant's point of view.
-H. Fred Dale

We are learning what Mother Nature already knows.

Compost is a younger form of organic matter manufactured using the natural process of biodegradation. And while we think of soil in terms of chemistry, it’s truly the biology that creates great soil. An acre of healthy soil will contain more than 4,000 pounds of microscopic organisms. The smallest of these feed on organic matter, until they themselves become food for the larger organisms in the soil. It is essentially, a microscopic manure fertilization program. Feed the soil, attract the biology, and let nature take its course. We are beginning to learn that excessive long term application of synthetics can, in fact, reduce the plant available nitrogen and other nutrients in the soil and that other chemicals can kill the very biology nature uses to maintain great soil.

  • Compost feeds the biology, feeds the soil, and soil is life!
  • Gardening doesn’t have to be hard!

The Purple Cow Advantage

To Create Great Soil:
Mix 1 bag Purple Cow with 2 bags of top soil.
Quantity as needed.

To Improve Your Current Flowers & Food Crops:
Top dress 1/2 inch layer directly on/over existing plants and gardens.
Each bag covers 24 square feet.
